MEDIA OPEN HOUSE AT: COMPUTER CORNER, 4700 SAN MATEO, NE
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21ST, 10 A.M. TO 2 P.M.
Computer Corner Debuts Own Brand of Equus MegaMedia Centers
Ultimate New Techno-Gadget Combines Functions of Personal Computer With TV,
TiVo, DVD, VCR and Radio "In a Breadbox"
Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Carole Petranovich, owner of Computer Corner, is inviting the news media to view a demonstration of the company's new Equus brand MegaMedia Center, which is a total convergence of the PC with an entertainment and media center for the living room, on Tuesday, December 21st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 4700 San Mateo, Northeast.
Truly the ultimate in "techno-gadgets," the system combines the functions of the personal computer with TV, TiVo, DVD, VCR and radio receiver in a system that "is not much larger than a breadbox." It uses Microsoft's Windows Media Center 2005 platform and comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse.
(Equus is a brand name that Computer Corner originally trademarked in 1989 for computer systems that it built in-house and sold to the public. MegaMedia is also a long-standing Computer Corner trademark.)
"I haven't been this excited about new technology since 1991, when the introduction of the CD ROM drive and Multi-Media allowed us have music and more exciting, interactive graphics on the PC," Ms. Petranovich said. "The Equus MegaMedia Center is perfect for anyone who loves music, videos, sports and gaming, because it consolidates all entertainment systems into one package. Because it has a Windows environment, it's easy to visually understand and operate, and you only need to use one remote control device for everything, except your TV.
"For example, the system will copy, digitize, label and store your favorite TV shows and movies on a hard drive or DVD. It can go out to the Internet and capture information about the casts, the plots, the categories - and even the illustrations from the VHS cover - and store that information in a database. Once on the Internet, the system can also access a "real-time," up-to-the-minute, online TV Guide. As a result, you'll no longer need your VCR, your TiVo, or your TiVo subscription.
"The system can also copy and clean up music recordings, including the background noises, hisses and pops on old vinyl records. As with video, it can go out to the Internet to match the songs, artists and categories, and save that information to a database, too," Ms. Petranovich added.
Ms. Petranovich also pointed to additional features, which make it possible to:
Download and edit video and family movies recorded on your Video Camera, using the firewire or USB ports on the front, and add audio commentary from the microphone interface;
Download pictures from your Digital Camera, using the USB ports on the front;
Listen to all local AM or FM radio stations;
Pick up and answer email and surf the web;
Perform all other traditional computer functions;
Play high-end video games, including interfacing to X-Box ;
Output images to any TV, computer monitor, plasma, LCD screen or LCD Projector
Interface with standard, digital surround-sound systems
Expand the system to run in multiple rooms on a wireless network
Petranovich said that nationally known companies such as Gateway are marketing PCs with similar functions, but none look like, or are customized with functions like, the Equus MegaMedia Center living room multi-media centers. In addition, Computer Corner's personnel will pre-program the system to receive all local radio stations, configure it to output to a customer's preferred screen or monitor, install and configure to utilize any of the clients existing equipment and provide user training.
The Equus MegaMedia system is configured with a 200Gb Hard Drive and 1Gb of Memory, along with a Dual-Layer DVD Drive/Burner and TV-Tuner.
The MegaMedia Center retails for $1,399.99. Professional installation, training and display, are sold separately.

State Selects Computer Corner for Statewide Service Price Agreement, One of 15 Vendors Selected Under "Save Smart" Initiative
Albuquerque, New Mexico
- The State of New Mexico has awarded Computer Corner and 14 other vendors a statewide service price agreement under the state's "Save Smart" initiative. This designation means that any state agency, county, municipality, school or court can contact any one of the 15 vendors for pre-qualified services without having to go out for the customary three competing bids.
Computer Corner (along with 50 other vendors) currently holds contracts with the State; however, the recent "Save Smart" initiative (under the direction of General Services Department Secretary Ed Lopez) identified the top 15 "best value vendors" to save the State millions of dollars in purchasing. Criteria for selection included historical relationships with State accounts, historic service level and quality, New Mexico "Resident Business" status, and price.
This is the second contract awarded to Computer Corner since June of 2004 as the result of the Richardson Administration's "Save Smart" initiatives.
Other honors that the firm has received this year include designations as one of the Top Private 100 Businesses in New Mexico, one of the Top 25 Women-Owned Businesses in the state, and one of the Flying 40 technology firms.
The 22-year-old Computer Corner provides technology consultation and planning, break-fix repair, hardware and software installation, hardware upgrades, asset inventories, cabling, video conferencing planning and installation, and other IT services.
